Matching Gifts Plan

To encourage our employees to contribute to educational, cultural and charitable institutions, Newmont sponsors a Matching Gifts Plan. Under the Plan, Newmont will match dollar-for dollar up to $5,000 contributed by eligible donors each year to qualified organizations. The guidelines and requirements of the Newmont Matching Gift Program are listed here.

To qualify for Matching Gifts, an organization must be:

  • Recognized as tax-exempt by the Internal
  • Revenue Service under the Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Located in the U.S. and conduct most of its programs in the U.S. or its territories.
  • A single, separately incorporated entity.
  • Operated by a trained, professional full-time staff.
  • In the case of an educational institution, it must be a university or four-year college that is accredited by a recognized regional or professional accreditation association, or in the case of a secondary school (grades 9 through 12), it must be non-profit and privately financed and operated.
  • In the case of a hospital, it must be accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals, but cannot be operated as a federal, state or municipal hospital.

Newmont Matching Gifts Program Organizations not qualified for Matching Gifts are:

  • Organizations that are NOT recognized as 501(c)(3) status per the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Political parties or groups with political orientation.
  • Any group whose purpose is to influence, promote or monitor legislation.
  • Umbrella fund raising organizations such as United Funds, state educational funds and federated campaigns.
  • Programs whose purpose are primarily to pursue a religion, sect or cult, or preparation for the ministry, or which qualify for tax-exempt status under the blanket “a church, synagogue or other religious institution.”
  •  Groups which discriminate based on color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, gender identity or expression, or any other legally protected status.
  • Social service agencies or sports teams.

Who is eligible as a Matching Gifts donor?

  • Full-time and part-time employees of Newmont Mining Corporation, or its subsidiaries, on a U.S. payroll, or directors of Newmont Mining Corporation.
  • Private charitable foundations or trusts, all of the capital of which consist of the personal contributions of eligible employees or directors of Newmont and its subsidiaries.

How much will be matched?

  • Not less than $25
  • Not more than $5,000 per employee in any calendar year.

Newmont will only match qualified, tax-exempt donations. Membership/registration fees, organization dues, and donations where goods or services are received will not be matched (includes donations for the value of auction items/services, seating/ table purchases and event entry costs).


If you want to report a donation to Newmont for the purpose of qualifying for a contribution from our Matching Gifts Program, we require proof of organization eligibility and confirmation of the donation. Please complete the following form and attach supporting documents (proof of donation and W9).

Upon approval, the gift will be matched and sent directly to the receiving organization. Newmont reserves the entire right to determine whether a gift qualifies for a matching grant, and its determination will be final. It can also amend or terminate the program at any time. Please note that the completed application must be received by Newmont no later than February 15th of the year following the calendar year in which the contribution is made.
