Newmont Donates $25,000 to Mackay School

Reno, Nevada

Newmont continues to support the University of Nevada at Reno’s College of Science's Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, a relationship we’ve maintained for about 40 years. In February, Newmont donated another $250,000 to support students, faculty, research and educational outreach.

In the past decade, Newmont also has funded scholarships, assistantships, travel assistance, classroom improvements and the development of a geographic information system program. The return of a metallurgical engineering program was made possible by the creation of an endowed faculty position, the Newmont Professorship.

"This investment will further increase the educational opportunities available to potential, existing and returning students," said Jeff Thompson, dean of the College of Science. "It also helps facilitate the university's vision to create one of the finest mining and earth sciences schools in the world."
